Natalia Navarro will represent Florida Atlantic University at the NCAA Women's Golf East Regional which will be held May 6-8 at Howey-in-the-Hills, FL. The senior from Medellin, Colombia becomes the first Lady Owl to qualify for an at-large bid to the NCAA Regional. She heads into competition finishing in the top-four in nine consecutive tournaments.
"I think she has a pretty good chance to move onto the next round," said head coach Joan Joyce. "The nice thing about the course she will be playing at is she is familiar with it."
Familiarity with Howey-in-the-Hills is an understatement. Navarro won her first tournament of the season at the Hatter Classic and has played there in three tournaments in three years.
Navarro, ranked 33rd in the nation by Golfstat, won two tournaments this year to bring her collegiate total to five. Twice named Atlantic Sun Women's Golfer-of-the-Month, she led the team and the A-Sun with a career low 75.15 scoring average. In her past nine tournaments, she has two wins, two second-place finishes, two third-place finishes and three fourth-place finishes.
A total of 324 participants have been selected for three regional competitions. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championship finals May 18-21 at the Grand National Lake Course, Opelika, Alabama. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each region.
Navarro will begin play on Thursday, May 6.
