Orlando, FL - Florida Atlantic University's men's golf team concluded play in its first spring tournament with a 17th place finish at the UCF/Rio Pinar Intercollegiate at Rio Pinar Country Club. Torstein Nevestad, shooting under-par for the second consecutive round, tied for the third lowest score of the final round.
Nevestad finished 28th with a three-round score of 225, shooting a combined three-under par in the second and third rounds. Michael Cleary improved four shots from the second round by firing a 76, while freshman Tommy Suri shot a 78, tying his score from the previous day. Ben Gardner and Anibal Ochoa finished with three-day totals of 241 and 247 on the 6,978-yard, par 72 course.
The Owls finished 17th out of 18 participating schools after ending the tournament with a score of 936. University of South Alabama won the tournament with a score of 863, while host UCF (863) finished runner-up. Coastal Carolina (881), Lamar University (884) and the University of Texas-Arlington (886) round out the top five.
Florida Atlantic returns to action Friday, February 20 to play in the USF Invitational in Tampa, FL
