BOCA RATON, FL - Sharia Young scored 19 points to lead Florida Atlantic University to an 84-75 come-from-behind victory over Bethune-Cookman College Thursday night in Boca Raton. FAU trailed by 14 points early in the second half before rallying for its second victory of the season. The win snaps a four-game losing streak by FAU (2-7). Jackie Brown added 18 points, and Shontavia Williams scored 16 in the victory.
BCC (2-6) closed the first half on an 8-0 run and led 44-36 at the break. The Lady Wildcats opened up the second half on an 8-4 run and led 52-38 with 17:22 to play. FAU battled back with a 30-11 run over the next 13 minutes and led 68-63 at the 4:30 mark. BCC would get no closer than five points the rest of the way as FAU's largest lead came with the final score.
"I thought we moved the ball a lot better in the second half," said FAU head coach Chancellor Dugan. "We got some good looks which helped us shoot 57 percent."
FAU shot a season-high 52-percent from the field for the game compared to BCC's 48-percent. FAU knocked down 11 three-pointers as Young went 5-for-6. Brown, Missy Glaser, and Cristal Randolph each added two. FAU went 19-for-28 from the foul line.
"It's great to end December with a win" added Dugan. "We're just taking it one game at a time."
BCC was led by Katie Clark, who scored a game-high 21 points. Florida Atlantic next faces UCF Monday night in Orlando.
