There's Much to Cheer About

Dear FAU supporters,
If you've ever been to an FAU athletic event, you've seen them... They are full of energy, enthusiasm and team spirit! While helpingFAU athletics work towards its goals, they're achieving a respectable status of their own!
If you think cheerleaders just stand around, shout some catchy phrases, and do some flips, then you need to see this team of dedicated athletes.
Here's what Head Coach Heather Coker had to say about her committed squad. This Cheer team is on the move...in their neighborhood, in their academics, and of course at FAU! Heather holds them to a very high standard. Despite their 5:45 a.m. workouts, they still maintain good G.P.A.'s and are working towards "...putting 110% in to helping FAU athletics become a tradition with the students and community in Boca Raton." This includes participating in charity walks, parades, and many other events in the area. Heather challenges anyone to faithfully maintain that early morning schedule, while also doing promotions, appearances and practices every week.
Along with a grueling routine, they also must follow the Division I rules that she put in place for them. This includes maintaining at least a 2.0 G.P.A., when most cheer teams do not have to follow those guidelines. She labels herself as a ... "tough coach, nothing slides by, but my team is handling it all very well." We have become accustomed to these high principles at FAU, and that's what keeps making our OWL athletes soar above the rest in all of their endeavors!
What's more, Heather and her husband own the training facility where these students practice, along with other kids in the surrounding area. Even while getting ready to move to a new structure, she still has time to dedicate her time and energy to the success of her squad, and therefore, the success of FAU sports, and our community!
In addition to their regular schedule Heather says that her "Great group of talented kids," are working on getting a paid bid to the national cheerleading championship. This is not an easy feat, even when school in not in full swing, but one can bet that they will do their best to not only make it there, but also to win! She says it is a ... "great time to be part of FAU athletics and the only way to go is up."
