Women's Soccer Braces for Another Hurricane

BOCA RATON, FL - Although hurricane season ends November 1, Florida Atlantic University's women's soccer team will close out the Miami Hurricanes' regular season when the two teams meet Wednesday, October 27, in the Lady Owls' regular season finale. FAU, ranked 12th in the southeast region by Soccerbuzz, is riding a nine game unbeaten streak and will be a third seed in its sixth consecutive appearance at the upcoming Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament.
Miami (3-11) leads the all-time series 4-2, but has lost to FAU (10-3-3) in its last two meetings by a score of 2-1. Last season, Christina Chang scored her first career game-winning goal in overtime while Cristina Rodriguez added her second career assist to give the Lady Owls their second win against the Hurricanes.
UM is coming off three consecutive losses and has won only one game in its last eight matches. Lindsey Yach has scored in two consecutive games and leads the team with four goals and eight points while Sheuneen Ta leads with three assists. Lauren McAdam and Alex Alford have split the duties in net. McAdam has a 2.04 goals-against average with 33 saves while Alford has a 2.94 GAA with 37 saves.
The Lady Owls have surged offensively over the last month, outscoring their opponents 25-1 over six games. The team is seventh in the nation in goals per game (3.00) and is first in the conference in goals per game, assists, assists per game and shots per game.
Individually, Denise Brolly and Katri Nokso-Koivisto have led the FAU attack. The two became the second duo in program history, and first since 2002, to both record 10 goals in a season. Both players accounted for 16 of the team's 25 goals in October. Brolly is 14th in the nation in points per game (2.19) and tied for 15th in goals per game (0.88) while Susanna Lehtinen is tied for 14th in assists per game (0.63)
FAU's defense has shutout four straight opponents and seven of its last eight opponents, lowering its team GAA to 0.77, fourth in the A-Sun and 37th in the nation. Keeper Megan Coyne is fifth in GAA (0.81) and sixth in save percentage (.824).
Florida Atlantic begins play at the A-Sun tournament on Thursday, November 4 in Buies Creek, NC.
