Sitting atop the Atlantic Sun Conference, Florida Atlantic University's volleyball team heads to Georgia to face Mercer University and Georgia State University on Friday and Saturday in conference play. The Owls will try to avenge losses to both teams last season.
FAU will face the Bears on Friday at 7 pm in Macon, GA. Mercer will travel to Samford University on Tuesday before returning home to host Friday's match. Currently holding a 9-11, 3-3 A-Sun record the Bears sit in sixth place in the A-Sun.
Liz Kane leads a defense that is tops in the conference. The sophomore average 4.83 digs per game to lead the A-Sun and ranks just ahead of FAU's Makra Condill with 4.42 digs per game. As a team, they average 18.65 digs per game. The offense ranks third in the conference just behind FAU's 14.99 kills per game at 14.47.
Senior Katie Plummer leads the offense with 204 kills, a .229 hitting percentage and 19 service aces while picking up 306 digs.
A team that advanced to the A-Sun Tournament Finals a year ago, Georgia State holds a 8-12, 4-1 A-Sun record. The Panthers are currently on their longest winning streak of the season at three matches. The team hosts Georgia Tech on Tuesday before hosting UCF on Friday and FAU on Saturday at 7 pm.
Robyn van Dam leads the squad with 200 kills, a .305 hitting percentage and 53 blocks. The only senior on the squad, April DeCoste runs the offense and has recorded 769 assists. The defense is led by sophomore libero Christen Garcia with 317 digs.
Coming off of her second A-Sun Player-of-the-Week performance, FAU's Iana Andonova leads the squad with 311 kills and a .350 hitting percentage. She leads the A-Sun with 4.38 kills per game and 50 service aces. Courtenay Kiebert runs the offense with 10.83 assists per game and is second on the squad with 23 service aces.
FAU is off to its best start in program history with a 15-4, 5-0 A-Sun record.
