UConn Sneaks By with a 3-1 Win

The University of Connecticut pulled out a close match over Florida Atlantic University Friday night at the UConn Autumn Classic. After the Owls took game one 30-28, the Huskies edged the Owls 30-28 in the next two games before dominating game three 30-20. Jamie Hadenfeldt pounded out 22 kills for the Huskies while Iana Andonova added 19 for Florida Atlantic.
FAU (4-8) fell behind 19-12 in game one but rallied for seven straight points behind the serving of Miner (Largo, FL) to take a 21-20 lead against the Huskies. The two teams battled it out to a 26 tie but FAU managed to pull out a 30-28 game one victory. FAU out hit UConn .256 to .128 despite 19 fewer attack attempts.
Games two and three were almost identical as UConn (8-6) took both games 30-28. Each game was tied at 28 before an FAU hitting error and a kill by Connecticut's Alanna Castle sealed game two. A Megan Silver kill and an FAU hitting error gave the Huskies a 2-1 advantage in the match.
The Huskies jumped out to an early 13-5 lead in game three and FAU could not recover as UConn took the 3-1 win.
FAU will take on Maine and the University of Maryland Baltimore County Saturday in Storrs in the final day of action at the UConn Autumn Classic.
