BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's women's soccer starts a string of nine straight conference games at 7 pm against the 2002 Atlantic Sun Champions, University of Central Florida, on Friday, September 19. This is the third-straight year that FAU has opened its conference season against UCF as the Lady Owls return home to play the Golden Knights after being defeated 2-0 in Orlando last year.
FAU (5-2-0) is ranked no. 7 in the Southeast Region by Soccerbuzz and the NSCAA. Both polls place the Owls ahead of UCF (4-2-0) which is ranked no. 8 by Soccerbuzz and no. 10 by the NSCAA. Statistically, the Lady Owls are ranked no. 24 in goals-against average at 0.548. Molly Keating, this week's A-Sun Defensive Player-of-the-Week, is no. 28 with a 0.57 GAA.
The Lady Owls have outscored their last two opponents 6-0 while out shooting them 37-7. The defensive unit of Danielle Castro, Lisa Rife, Krista Fine, Cristina Rodriguez and Keating has allowed a conference low four goals and has shutout three opponents in seven games.
Offensively, FAU has spread out its scoring with eight players scoring at least one goal. Lauren Lucena leads the team in points with five and is tied for the team lead in goals with two. Her game-winning goal against the University of South Florida was her seventh career game-winning goal. She is on a two-game goal and point streak. Lisanne Peart remains two points behind the all-time points lead and three goals behind the all-time goals lead.
The Golden Knights hold a 14-3 series lead over the Lady Owls' with FAU's last win coming September 17, 2001.
