Philadelphia, PA. - Former Florida Atlantic University women's soccer player Trina Maso de Moya became the first athlete from FAU to make the roster of a Women's United Soccer Association team when the Philadelphia Charge announced Monday afternoon that she had made the squad. Maso de Moya scored one goal in an exhibition game against the University of Nebraska and is now one of seven first year players on the Charge.
At FAU, Maso de Moya set six single season records including goals, points, shots, game-winning goals, consecutive games with a goal and consecutive games with a point in her only season. The Atlantic Sun First Team All-Conference player helped guide the Lady Owls to a share of the regular season title, the first in program history.
Prior to playing soccer, Maso de Moya was an Atlantic Coast Conference All-Conference Volleyball Player. There she won the 2000 ACC Player-of-the-Year award and recently was named to the 50th anniversary All-ACC Volleyball team as one of its top 53 all-time volleyball athletes.
On the Charge, Maso de Moya will have the chance to learn from one of the WUSA's founding players and National Team member Lorrie Fair, as well as international soccer scoring extraordinaire Marinette Pichon, who finished sixth in scoring and second in goals scored in the WUSA.
The Philadelphia Charge, which had the second best record last season, begins its season Saturday, April 5 at San Jose.
