BOCA RATON - Florida Atlantic University's Alena Dvorakova has been named the first-ever Atlantic Sun Conference Player-of-the-Week. Dvorakova boasts a dual match record of 5-1, all at no. 1, and has helped lead FAU to a no. 75 national ranking and a 5-2 record. That includes a perfect 2-0 start in A-Sun play.
Dvorakova's biggest win came when she defeated the University of Miami's Megan Bradley, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. At the time, Bradley was ranked no. 2 in the nation. In A-Sun play Dvorakova has been dominant. The sophomore is 2-0, winning both matches in straight sets, and losing just seven total games. Dvorakova is also 5-2 in dual doubles play.
The Lady Owls' only two losses this season have come at the hands of higher ranked opponents. FAU opened the season with a loss to no. 45 Illinois and also suffered a loss at no. 24 Miami. Since the match at Miami, the team has reeled off three straight wins in which it has won by a combined score of 18-3.
Florida Atlantic will next host no. 64 Florida International, Friday, at noon.
