BOCA RATON, FL -- Florida Atlantic University's Mike Bell has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player-of-the-Week, announced the conference office Monday afternoon. The junior averaged 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in FAU's three games last week.
Bell leads FAU and the A-Sun with 22.0 points per game. In addition to his points and rebounds last week, the Raleigh, NC, native averaged 3.0 blocks. He helped lead FAU to a 2-1 record, including A-Sun wins at Gardner-Webb and Campbell.
Against GWU, Bell had 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting. That included a 4-of-7 effort from beyond the arc. He followed that up with 15 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Campbell. In both games, Bell had four blocks. The junior capped off his week with 23 points and 12 rebounds against James Madison.
Bell, a transfer from Palm Beach Community College, is shooting 50.4 percent from the field through seven games and 38.3 percent from beyond the arc. He has helped lead the team to a 4-3 overall record and a 2-0 mark in the A-Sun.
He becomes the first FAU player to receive a player-of-the-week honor from the A-Sun since the 2001-02 season.
Florida Atlantic next faces the University of Miami, Saturday, in Coral Gables.
