BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University is picked third in both preseason polls conducted by the Atlantic Sun Conference and released Monday afternoon. The Lady Owls received 110 points in the media poll and 90 points in the coaches poll.
Georgia State was picked first ahead of Central Florida in both polls. The two teams combined for 23 of the possible 25 first place votes between the two polls.
Florida Atlantic is coming off a 14-14 campaign in 2002-03 that included a team record 12-4 mark and a second-place finish in the A-Sun South. Over the past two years, head coach Chancellor Dugan has led FAU to 25 A-Sun regular season victories.
With the loss of Jacksonville State and Samford, along with the addition of Lipscomb, the A-Sun is now comprised of 11 teams. That means, the divisional format from a year ago will be done away with, and all teams will play each other twice during the regular season. The top eight teams will advance to the A-Sun Tournament.
Florida Atlantic begins its season November 21 with a home game against Georgia Tech. Season tickets are available by calling 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
