BOCA RATON, FL - Off to its second best start in program history, the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team travels to Nashville, TN, to continue its nine-game stretch against Atlantic Sun opponents. The Lady Owls meet Lipscomb for the first time in program history on Friday, October 3, and look to continue their two-game winning streak over Belmont on Sunday, October 5. FAU is 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the A-Sun.
FAU is coming off of a disappointing 1-0 loss to Campbell. Since Brian Dooley became head coach in 1999, FAU is 16-9-2 after a loss. The Lady Owls have outscored their opponents 49-4 with 13 shutouts in those wins. That is good news for Janine Aylward, who is on a hot streak. The junior from Levittown, NY, has recorded one goal and three assists for five points in her last five games. Aylward leads the team with three assists and seven points.
Lipscomb (1-8) is in its first season in the A-Sun. Last season, the Bisons record was 4-11-1 while the team went 1-3 in games against A-Sun opponents.
Belmont (0-9-1) enters its third season in the A-Sun and will meet FAU for the third time. The Lady Owls have outscored the Bruins 16-2 in the previous two games. Florida Atlantic first met Belmont on October 26, 2001, in a 6-2 victory. Jessica Kmiotek scored two goals, Kari Kaiser recorded a goal and an assist, Kelly Hoffman recorded a goal, and Lauren Lucena assisted on a goal. FAU defeated Belmont 10-0 on October 4, 2002, as Rhonda Jones recorded a career-high seven points off of two goals and three assists. Kmiotek, Hoffman, Aylward and Lucena scored for FAU while Kaiser and Danielle Castro each assisted on two goals.
FAU returns home to play Mercer Friday, October 10, at 7 pm and Georgia State Sunday, October 12 at 2 pm. Season ticket packages can still be purchased. Adult packages begin at $35 while individual ticket prices are $4 for adults and $2 for seniors/children. For more information call 866-FAU-OWLS.
