In the second meeting of the season between Florida Atlantic University's swim team and the University of Miami, the results were similar to when they faced each other in October. The women fell to Miami 161-143, while the men overtook the Hurricanes 194-81. Andrea Van Der Plaats competed in four events for FAU and came away with two first and two second place finishes.
Van Der Plaats, who is a distance specialist placed first in the 1000 Freestyle (10:19.76) and the 500 Freestyle (5:05.42). Her second place finishes came in the 200 Freestyle and the 400 Individual Medley with times of 1:53.45 and 4:37.14, respectively.
The men had three swimmers earn two first place finishes each. Alex Broner touched the wall in 4:09.25 in the 400 Individual Medley and 48.53 in the 100 Freestyle. Adam Zeibig also earned 18 points for the men in the 100 (51.30) and 200 Butterfly 51.30. FAU also took the 100 and 200 Backstroke. Rich Marzonie swept both events with times of 53.34 and 1:57.84.
Florida Atlantic will compete in their final meet of the season at Florida on February 9, before competing at the National Independent Conference Championship on the February 28.
