Boca Raton - In the spirit of the holidays, there is a saying that says: "It is better to give than receive". Florida Atlantic University's women's basketball team has given of their time and has opened their games to the community. Through their community efforts they have enjoyed the warmth and fan support and more recently have enjoyed the winning ways.
The Lady Owls played host to Eastern Michigan, Thursday, December 19. The game was billed as "free admission for those who bring a toy for children". Over 100 toys were collected and donated to a children's group that FAU has helped to mentor, the Wayne Barton Center. The Center's founder, Wayne Barton along with approximately 15 center members were in attendance to help cheer the Lady Owls on in their season's first victory.
While the goal of a victory was obtained by the Lady Owls, the children who attended and who received toys reached their reading goals to gain admission and a toy. For their efforts, the children and Barton were recognized at the game's half.
