The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team heads to Atlanta to take part in the Georgia Tech Atlanta Marriott NW Holiday Invitational, December 30-31. FAU (2-7) will face East Carolina in Monday's first round. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:00pm EST.
FAU has won its past two games with its most recent victory coming on December 28 against Long Island. The Lady Owls won that home contest, 61-48, behind a career-high 22 points from Angie Rodgers and 20 points from Crystal Boyland. FAU has won its past two games by an average of 13.5 points. Senior forward Tamica Pierce leads the team with 12.8 points per game. Boyland has averaged 17.0 points in the two victories.
ECU (4-4) has won three straight games and is led by junior forward Courtney Willis, who is averaging 14.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. This will be the first meeting between ECU and FAU, but not the first meeting between the head coaches.
FAU head coach Chancellor Dugan owns a 2-1 record against ECU coach Sharon Baldwin, who coached at Mercer a year ago. FAU ousted Mercer from the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament last March.
In the other match-up in the tournament, St. John's takes on host Georgia Tech Monday at 1:00pm EST. St. John's brings a 5-4 record into the tournament while Georgia Tech is 9-1. FAU has not faced either team before.
Tuesday's action features the consolation game at 1:00pm followed by a 3:00pm championship.
There are no radio or internet broadcasts of FAU's games at the tournament.
