CHARLESTON, SC - Florida Atlantic University shot a final round 285 Tuesday to finish second at the Charleston Southern University Fall Invitational. The Owls, who were in third place heading into Tuesday's final round, finished just five strokes behind Charleston Southern for first place. The tournament, held at the 6,593-yard, par-71 Coosaw Creek Country Club, featured 12 teams.
FAU's Matt Anderson fired a four-under par 67 on Tuesday to tie for top honors. For the 36-hole event, Anderson finished with a four-under 138. He would fall to Mercer's Jeff Lozano on the first hole of a playoff.
Also for FAU, Scott Kennedy finished strong with an even-par 142. Joel Gibbons finished five over at 147 while Nicolai Syvertsen carded rounds of 77 and 73 respectively. Matt Giovannelli rounded out the Owls' contingent with a 160.
CSU finished at 570 for the competition while FAU shot 575. Mercer, which led after the first round, finished third at 576. The Owls made up 13 strokes on Mercer, which led FAU by 12 after the first round.
Florida Atlantic next takes part in the Rio Pinar Intercollegiate October 28-29 in Orlando.
