Tammy Mazza Named Head Coach of Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, FL- Florida Tech Athletics Director Bill Jurgens has announced the search for a new head women's soccer coach has ended. Tammy Mazza will be Tech's first-ever head women's soccer coach. The 2003 season will be the inaugural campaign for the Panther women's soccer program.
"I believe Tammy Mazza to be one of the outstanding young coaches for women' s soccer in the country," stated Jurgens. "I am confident that under her guidance, the Florida Tech women's soccer program will become nationally recognized."
Mazza comes to Florida Tech from NCAA Division I Florida Atlantic University, where she spent the last four seasons as the assistant coach for the Fighting Owls. Before FAU, she was an assistant coach at the University of Southern Mississippi for the 1997 and 1998 seasons. While at Southern Mississippi, Mazza helped the program become one of the NCAA's top-five best Division I start-up programs.
Mazza is also currently a staff coach for the Olympic Development Program (ODP) for Florida Youth Soccer Association based in Kissimmee and the Club Coach for the Boca United Soccer Club for Under-9 Girls in West Boca Raton.
"I am really excited about the amazing opportunity I have been given," stated Mazza. "My goal has always been to become a head coach at a NCAA Division II school."
Previously, Mazza served as the League Administrator and Head Trainer for the Delray Beach Soccer Club. She also served as the Head Girls' Soccer Coach for Lake Worth Christian High School in Lake Worth during the 1998 and 1999 seasons. Professionally, Mazza played for the Tampa Bay Extreme in the W-League in 1997.
Mazza played for Lynn University and help them capture the 1992 NAIA national championship. She graduated from Lynn in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. Mazza earned her Master's of Science Degree in Sports Administration and Coaching from Southern Mississippi in 1998 and returned to Palm Beach Community College to receive a specialization (CDA) for Preschool Certification.
"My first goal at Florida Tech is to be competitive within the SSC," said Mazza. "And the second goal will be to create some new traditions at Tech both on the field and within the athletic department."
Mazza holds a NCAA National Coaching Diploma and licenses in the USSF C and D coaching levels. She is married to Carmino Mazza and the couple have a daughter, Josephine. They currently reside in Boca Raton.
