Macon, Ga. -Florida Atlantic University's Krista Fine was awarded the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player-of-the-Week award for the first time in her career as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. The award marked the first time a defensive player earned such honors in FAU's history. It also marked the fifth FAU player to receive Player-of-the-Week recognition this season, setting a new record for a program making an assault on the record books.
Fine, a junior from Delray Beach, FL., led a Lady Owl defense that has allowed only one goal in its last seven games, including a program record six straight shutouts (all A-Sun rivals). Fine, primarily used to defend an opposing teams top scorer, held two of the A-Sun's top scorers to one shot and no goals or assists in the 1-0 win over then conference leader Jacksonville University. Fine also held Jacksonville State University's top scorer to one shot with no points in the 3-0 win. The wins catapulted FAU (13-4, 9-1) to a tie for first place in the A-Sun with one game remaining.
FAU plays its final regular-season game on Saturday, November 2, against A-Sun foe Gardner Webb in Boiling Springs, NC., at noon.
