Macon, Ga. - Florida Atlantic University rode the waves of Julie Ferguson and Trina Maso de Moya Sunday afternoon as the duo scored all of the Lady Owls goals in a 7-0 win over Mercer University. Ferguson had a record setting day as she scored four goals and assisted on Maso de Moya's three goals.

"Everything clicked from the start," said coach Brian Dooley. "It was a little muddy, not as bad as Georgia State, but a little difficult and we talked about coming out with intensity and putting pressure on them early and we followed the game plan exactly."

Ferguson now holds the record for most goals in a game (4) and most points in a game (11) as well as tying the record for most assists in a game (3). Maso de Moya recorded her second hat trick of the season and now has 13 goals on the year. This marked the first time in program history that two players scored three goals in one game and the first time the team has had three hat tricks in one season. The Lady Owls have now won six of its last seven games with four coming by shutout.

FAU (8-4, 5-1 Atlantic Sun) came out of the gates strong when Maso de Moya scored in the fourth minute off of a one-on-one with the keeper and the 10th minute off of a chip shot, both from Ferguson passes to make the score 2-0. Eight minutes later, Ferguson would score her first of four goals, as she blasted a low liner past the keeper to make the score 3-0. Brandi Herrmann assisted on Ferguson's next goal at the 23rd minute of play to end the offensive explosion for FAU at 4-0 in the first half.

The Bears (0-12-2, 0-8 A-Sun) attempt to hold FAU scoreless in the second half failed when Maso de Moya netted her third goal of the day at 45:48 when she chipped another shot over keeper Lauren Burch. Ferguson then broke the school record for quickest goal scored (45 seconds) when she scored at 64:09 and 64:13. Lauren Lucena assisted on Ferguson's final goal, her fifth of the season.

FAU keepers Molly Keating and Melissa Cancio combined for the shutout, the duo's fourth of the season. The defense allowed only one shot on goal on the day and was very effective in getting the ball to the forwards.

"The defense was extremely effective in getting forward," said Dooley. "They found a lot of open slots to pass through and put Mercer's attack under intense pressure all day."

Florida Atlantic University returns home for a five-game home stand starting, Wednesday, October 16th, against conference opponent Stetson University at 7:00 pm at FAU Field.
