Twenty-three first place finishes were not enough to propel the Florida Atlantic University swim teams to a first place finish. Both the menand the women rallied to finish second at the FAU Invitational behind the University of Pennsylvania.
Christina Horton picked up 40 points for the Lady Owls with a first place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard IM (2:14.08). In the breaststroke she finished with a time of 2:28.37, 2.5 seconds faster than the second placefinisher.
Marina Mulyayeva continues to dominate the competition as she picked up two first-place and one second-place finish. In her first meet swimming the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard freestyle, she finished first with times of 1:08.63 and 54.50, respectively. Mulyayeva's second place finish came in the100-yard butterfly (58.66)
Three FAU men each earned top honors in two different events. Rich Marzonie completed the 100-yard backstroke in 54.38 and the 200 IM in 1:58.51. Adam Zeibig took the 100 and 200-yard butterfly with times of 52.57 and 1:55.86. Antony Hine finished the 100-yard breaststroke 2.5 seconds faster than his closest competitor and led the sweep of the 200-yard breaststroke (2:12.97) as FAU finished in the top-three spots.
Diving was a strong event for the Owls as Asheley Boland and Matt Streicher both took the one-meter and three meter diving honors.
FAU will next compete at FSU on January 12.
