FAU Finishes Second Day at Shamrock Invitational

, I the second day of action at the Shamrock Invitational, Florida Atlantic University (0-3) fell to top-30 Notre Dame (3-0) and Southwest Texas State (1-2). Marja Valkeauori, a senior transfer from Finland, played well in her first tournament as a Lady Owl and was named to the All-Tournament team.
In the first game of the afternoon, FAU took on host Notre Dame. The Lady Owls were overpowered by the strength of the Fighting Irish as they were able to accumulate 19 kills in the first game and continued hitting well as they posted a .356 hitting percentage for the match. ND won the match in three games, 30-17, 30-20, 30-16.
Valkeavuori lead the team both offensively and defensively for FAU as she earned a .235 hitting percentage and six digs. Jeana Boyle continues as the quarterback of the team as she tallied 23 assists.
Against Southwest Texas State in the afternoon match, FAU played their first five-game match of the season falling 18-30, 30-24, 30-24, 25-30, 8-15. Jessica Kahn lead the team for the second time over the weekend with a .368 hitting percentage and five blocks. Defensively, Jeana Boyle (Olympic Heights) tallied 23 digs and 40 assists.
Danyielle Smith was moved to outside hitter for the night match and earned 15 kills.
The Lady Owls next travel to South Florida to take on the Lady Bulls on Tuesday, 7:00 pm.
