BOCA RATON, FL -
Mark Wade has been named assistant men's basketball coach at Florida Atlantic University, announced head coach Sidney Green.
The hiring reunites the two as Wade once served on Green's staff at LIU-Southampton in 1995-96. He most recently served as director of basketball operations at UNLV last season. In 1999-00, he was an assistant coach with the Las Vegas Silver Bandits of the International Basketball League after a similar stint at Cheyenne High School.
Wade played two seasons (1985-87) at UNLV and was a member of various professional teams, including the Golden State Warriors and Dallas Mavericks, until 1995.
He holds several records at UNLV including assists in a season (406), assists per game in a season (10.6) and career assists per game (9.1). His season assists total is an NCAA record. In addition, he holds the UNLV record with 21 assists in a single game. In the 1987 NCAA Tournament, Wade set records for assists in a game (18) and total assists (61). All of the UNLV and NCAA Tournament records still stand. In his two seasons as a Runnin' Rebel, Wade helped lead the team to a 70-7 (.909) record.
"I am very excited to reunite with Mark Wade," said Green. "He has been an assistant coach for me at Southampton College and was very successful in his responsibilities. I'm also excited in the fact we have someone who fully understands the style and system we're trying to implement. It's also a good feeling to stay connected and to look after a fellow UNLV alum."
"I am truly happy and thankful for the opportunity to be back with Coach Green," said Wade. "It is exciting to be involved with a program on the rise."
Wade received a degree in hotel administration from UNLV in 1998. He is a native of San Pedro, CA.
