Jwanda Roberson scored 30 points to lead host Mercer University over Florida Atlantic University 94-88 in overtime Saturday afternoon in Macon, GA. Tamala Vaughn tied a season-high with 23 points for the Lady Owls to go along with 11 rebounds while Janka Deckerova had a career-high 18 in the loss.
FAU (6-17, 3-12 Trans America Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 40-32 halftime lead behind 11 points by LaTorria Matthews and 10 by Vaughn. Matthews finished with 17. However, the Lady Bears countered with 50 points in the second half to forced overtime with the score tied at 82.
Mercer (5-18, 2-12 TAAC) outscored FAU 12-6 in the extra period, holding the Lady Owls to 1-of-6 shooting from the field.
Mercer went 33-of-45 from the line while FAU managed just 20-of-34. FAU outshot Mercer 48-percent to 42-percent. The Lady Owls committed 26 turnovers compared to Mercer's 19.
Vaughn's 11 rebounds gives her 508 for her career. Earlier this season, she surpassed the 1,000-point mark. She is only the third Lady Owl in FAU's 17-year history to have 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.
Jo Shaw and Britt Stewart each scored 13 for the Lady Bears while April Dyer had 10.
