Florida Atlantic University was able to pull out five top-15 finishes in the first day of the Georgia Invitational, all times were a season's best. The 16-team field features four ACC teams along with Minnesota, Alabama, Northwestern, and Michigan.
The 200 yard IM continues to be a strong event for the Owls as they had two women and one man place in the top-15. Marina Mulyayeva, after setting a pool record in her last meet, improved her time by more than one second to finish in 2:04.26 for sixth place. Emma Petersson followed her lead and finished 13th in the 44 person event with a time of 2:05.10. Rich Marzonie touched the wall with a time of 1:53.11 to earn a 14th place finish for the men.
Dariusz Szymanski picked up the most points for the men when he completed the 500 yard freestyle in 4:32.43 for an eighth place finish. Alex Berger, a junior from Cookeville, TN, improved by more than half a second in the 50 yard freestyle and placed 15th with a time of 21.13.
Florida Atlantic will continue competition on Saturday and Sunday in the three day event.
