The Florida Atlantic University men's swim team had an impressive showing against the University of Miami in their first meet of the season. FAU had 10 first place finishes in the 149-106 victory. The women's team had five swimmers win their individual races as they finished 24 points behind UM, 161-137.
Alex Berger and Alex Broner each had two first place finishes to pace the Owls. Berger swam the 100 yard free (48.39) and the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 57.84, beating his closest competition by almost five seconds. Broner's events were the 200 yard free (1:46.67) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:11.73).
The highlight for the Lady Owls was Marina Mulyayeva who earned three first place finishes. She participated in the 100 yard back (59.32), 100 yard fly (57.40), and 200 yard IM (2:06.72). Valeria Dalmastro captured a first place finish in the 50 yard free with a time of 24.66. Andrea Van Der Plaats swam he 1000 yard free in a time of 10:27.23 to place first.
Both teams will travel to New York this weekend where they will scrimmage Cornell on Friday before swimming a dual meet with Syracuse on Saturday.
