In their fourth straight win, the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team (8-9, 5-0 A-Sun) slipped by Samford University (7-11, 3-3 A-Sun) in FAU's second five-game match of the season 30-24, 26-30, 30-24, 25-30, 15-9. The Lady Owls had five players record double-digit kills and five with double-digit digs.
After winning game one by out-hitting the Bulldogs .267 to .214, FAU used the momentum to jump out to a 13-3 lead in game two. They were not able to hold on as Samford's Whitney Miller came alive and finished the night with 18 kills to lead the Bulldogs.
The teams battled back and forth to force a fifth game. Again, Florida Atlantic jumped out to a lead as Samford committed three straight hitting errors. The Bulldogs slowly battled back as they brought the game to 9-7, but FAU finished the match with a 6-2 run to stay undefeated in conference play.
The middle attack of FAU proved to be to much as Gracie Heim (Indian Harbour Beach, FL) and Jessica Kahn (Apopka, FL) finished with 23 and 14 kills, respectively. Both players connected for four blocks in the match. Senior captain, Ashley Bodily (Freemont, CA) was one of two players to finish with a double-double by recording 18 kills and 14 digs to go with three service aces. Jeana Boyle was the other, as she completed her third double-double in as many games. She finished with 66 assists and 10 digs.
FAU takes a break from conference play on Tuesday when they host St. John's University at 7:00 pm before hosting the no. 2 preseason pick in the A-Sun, UCF, on Friday.
