Florida Atlantic University lost its fourth straight game in a 92-80 loss at Stetson University Monday night in DeLand, FL. The loss drops FAU to 5-17 overall and 4-7 in Trans America Athletic Conference play. Meanwhile Stetson improved to 12-7 overall and 7-4 in the TAAC. Stetson's Will Robertson led all scorers with 24 points while FAU was led by Daryl Dingle and Jeff Cowans, who each finished with 18. The 18 points tied Dingle's season high.
FAU, which lost to Stetson by 12 points nine days earlier, took a 37-32 halftime lead behind 53-percent shooting in the first half. The Owls' zone defense forced the Hatters into just 13-of 31 (42 percent) shooting in the first 20 minutes as it looked as if the Owls were poised to avenge the earlier defeat.
Instead, Stetson countered with an offensive explosion in the second half, scoring 60 points amid 10-of-17 (59-percent) shooting from beyond the arc. In all, the Hatters outscored the Owls 60-43 in the second half to claim the 12-point victory.
FAU's largest lead was at 42-36 with 18:16 to play before Stetson went on an 18-4 run which included four three-pointers in a 1:49 span. The Owls battled back to tie the game at 63 with 8:22 to play before a 12-2 run by the Hatters, capped off by two Ravii Givens treys, put the Hatters in front 75-65. Givens finished with 20 points, 17 in the second half, along with 12 assists.
For the game, Stetson outshot FAU 52-percent to 49-percent while outrebounding the Owls 35-31. The Hatters finished the game 14-of-27 (52-percent) from three-point range while FAU was 7-of-17 (41-percent).
Raheim Brown also finished in double figures for FAU with 15 while hauling down a team-high eight rebounds. Santos Hampton was the other Hatter with a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
