Three players scored in double-digits for Florida Atlantic University, but the Lady Owls did not come away with the victory in a 74-64 loss to Trans America Athletic Conference opponent Mercer University, Thursday night in Boca Raton.
FAU pulled within six, twice, in the final nine minutes of the contest before the Bears went on a 13-2 run to solidify the contest for the visitors.
"I think this team has come a long way," says Chancellor Dugan, FAU's Head Coach. "But, we ha ve a long way to go. I see improvement everyday in practice. We just have to translate it into games."
Seniors Tamala Vaughn and LaTorria Mathews paced FAU with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Freshman, Sumika Alexander played turned in a strong defensive performance with seven points and a game high nine rebounds. Ruta Griniute, who's play was limited due to foul trouble scored 11 points and added five rebounds. Chantale Jones continueds to run the team's offense with nine assists. Jones's quarterbacking allowed freshman Julie Goad to move to shooting guard where she scored eight points to go along with seven boards.
Mercer was led by Mia Washington who had a game high 19 points. Tracy Henry and Jwanda Roberson added 10. Henry led the team with nine rebounds.
