Florida Atlantic University dropped its first Trans America Athletic Conference game of the season Thursday by falling to Jacksonville State 83-59 in Jacksonville, AL. FAU (2-3, 0-1 TAAC) fell despite a career-high 21 points from Kristy Halvorsen. The junior also grabbed 11 rebounds which ties her career mark. Halvorsen was the only Lady Oowl in double-figures.
JSU controlled most of the game as the Gamecocks (2-2, 1-0 TAAC)jumped out to a 42-27 halftime advantage. The host Gamecocks then outscored FAU 41-32 in the second half to take the 24-point victory.
Despite owning a 50-34 rebounding edge, FAU was done in by 35-percent shooting compared to JSU's 47-percent accuracy. The Gamecocks shot 45-percent from three-point range while the Lady Owls managed just 22-percent from downtown. JSU also forced FAU into 29 turnovers while committing just 11.
No other Lady Owl finished in double-figures. Tamala Vaughn had nine points off the bench while LaTorria Matthews was held to just seven points.
Kelly Nye led JSU with 27 points, including 6-for-11 shooting from beyond the arc. Laura Baswell and Amanda Gallagher each had 13 and 11 points, respectively. FAU next plays at Samford University Saturday afternoon at 5:15pm.
