Jens Zetterstrom had three goals and two assists to lead Florida Atlantic University past Gardner-Webb, 7-2, Sunday afternoon at the Mercer University Tournament in Macon, GA. FAU (5-3) scored five times in the first half. In addition, Mark Haskins had two goals and three assists in the five-goal victory.
Zetterstrom's first two goals came 35 seconds apart in the 17th minute of the match to give FAU a 2-0 lead. Haskins assisted Zetterstorm on both goals.
Zetterstrom returned the favor at 19:52, setting up Haskins' first score. Less than four minutes later, Zetterstrom again scored on an assist by Haskins to give FAU a commanding 4-0 lead. Haskins finished the first-half scoring with a goal with 9:25 left to give fAU a 5-0 a 5-0 lead. Chris Carvajal picked up the assist.
Just 1:16 into the second half, FAU receiveda one-man advantage after Gardner-Webb's Paul McCallum was issued a red card. The Owls took advantage of 14 minutes later when Jeff Chandler scored to give FAU a 6-0 lead on an assist by Zetterstrom.
Two late goals by GW's Darrell Caroll were followed by a goal by FAU's Marcus Henricsson, on a penalty kick, with four seconds remainign to give FAU the 7-2 victory.
In all, Gardner-Webb was issued five yellow cards and two red cards while FAU was not flagged for any cautions. FAU outshot Gardner-Webb 25-20. Christopher Paulsen had seven saves for the Owls in his first action of the season.
