2000-2001 Women's Basketball Schedule
Florida Atlantic University has released its women's basketball schedule for the upcoming 2000-01 season. Trips to Kentucky and Miami as well as two tournaments, including one in Cancun, highlight the Lady Owls' non-conference schedule. FAU will also play in a tournament hosted by Southwest Texas State in San Marcos, TX.
FAU will play nine non-conference games, in all. In addition to the Kentucky and Miami games, the Lady Owls will host Florida International, South Florida, and Georgia Southern.
At the Southwest Texas State Tournament, FAU will face Morehead State and Texas-Pan American. At the Oral Roberts Fun in the Sun Classic in Cancun, FAU will face Oral Roberts in the opening round and take on either Duke or Arkansas State in the final round.
FAU will once again play the other nine members of the Trans America Athletic Conference twice. They will open TAAC play on the road against Jacksonville State and Samford on November 30 and December 2, respectively. FAU's final 16 games will also be against TAAC competition.
"This is a very competitive schedule," said head coach Chancellor Dugan. "With ten new players and this being a rebuilding year, we may have actually overscheduled in terms of our non-conference opponents. However, when you look at the quality of those teams and the conferences they represent, it will definitely prepare us for the tough TAAC season to follow."
Overall FAU's non-conference schedule includes teams from the ACC, Big East, SEC as well as the Sun Belt, Ohio Valley, Southland, and Mid-Continent Conferences.
Dugan enters her second season at FAU after leading the Lady Owls to their first-ever winning season last year (15-14, 12-6 TAAC) since moving to Division I. FAU finished fourth in the TAAC and also completed the biggest one-year turnaround in the history of the TAAC.
FAU will open the season November 18 at home against Florida International.
