Florida Atlantic University scored four first half goals on its way to a 6-0 victory over Mercer University Sunday afternoon in Macon, GA. It was the second shutout in three days for the Lady Owls, who improved to 7-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in Trans America Athletic Conference play. Lisanne Peart and Helena Ternau each had a pair of goals in the win. The shutout was the fifth of the season for FAU and goalkeeper Molly Keating.
Ternau started the scoring 11:52 in the match when she converted on a penalty kick. Peart scored FAU's next two goals with strikes at 21:30 and 35:01. Lauren Lucena made it 4-0 when she connected just 37 seconds later.
Ternau scored just 3:15 into the second half to give FAU a 5-0 lead while Dee Dee Castro capped off the FAU attack with a goal at 54:36.
Peart's two goals gives her a team-leading nine for the season. For Ternau and Castro, it was their first goals of the season while Lucena connected for the fourth time.
Melissa Bobby and Lauren Manfrass each had two assists while Christie Pollock and Meredith Holthaus also added assists.
FAU outshot Mercer 16-5 while Keating finished with four saves. FAU next hosts Jacksonville State on October 6.
