MIAMI, FL -
Florida Atlantic University (0-1) could not battle back from a two-goal deficit as they fell 2-1 Friday night to Wright State in the first round of the FIU Soccer Classic in Miami. Mark Haskins scored the lone goal for the Owls in their season opener.
WSU (1-0) began the scoring on a goal by Isa Ar-Razi 23:25 into the first half. That 1-0 lead would stand up for the remainder of the half.
With WSU clinging to the one-goal lead late in the second half, FAU's chances of tying the match were dashed when Wright State's Ricky Strong connected from 12 yards out with 13:06 left in the match to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead.
Haskins goal came with just 3:17 left in the match to cut the lead to 2-1. He was assisted by FAU teammate Emiliano Aranes.
FAU outshot Wright State 11-8.
Florida Atlantic will next play the University of Dayton 12:30 pm, Sunday, at FIU.
