May 10, 2018

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team wraps the road portion of the 2018 regular season this weekend in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, for a three-game set against Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee.

The Owls (32-14-1, 15-7-1 C-USA) got a big non-conference win Tuesday night against UCF, who too is projected for postseason play. With six league games remaining, the team trails just 19-4 Southern Miss, by 3 1/2 games. The Golden Eagles host third-place Louisiana Tech, who, at 16-8, are percentage points behind FAU.

Currently, Middle Tennessee (24-23-1, 9-14-1) is on the outside looking in as far as league postseason play. WKU and UAB are tied for seventh, at 11-12, with eight teams qualifying. Last weekend, the Blue Raiders took two of three from LA Tech and did not have a midweek contest.

MT is led in most offensive categories by Aaron Aucker. He is hitting .346 with 11 home runs and a league-high 56 RBI, and he is also tied for first in C-USA with the Owls' Tyler Frank with 17 doubles. Aucker is just ahead of Austin Dennis (.338) and Ryan Kemp (.336) in average, and Blake Benefield trails him by just one home run. Dennis is second in all of C-USA in runs scored with 53, with Frank third at 48.

Only the Friday night starting pitchers have been announced for either side. FAU will go with Vince Coletti (2-3, 3.68) and MT will counter with Jake Wyrick (3-3, 3.95). Gametime is 7 p.m. EST. On Saturday, it will be 5 p.m. Eastern, and 2 p.m. first pitch Sunday.

All-time, with games spanning both Sun Belt and C-USA play, the Owls lead the series 20-15. Under Coach McCormack, it's 14-12 FAU, with wins in each of the last five. Last season in Boca Raton, it was an FAU sweep by scores of 7-6, 10-1 and 7-6 again.

Following this weekend, only three more games remain, at FAU Baseball Stadium, May 17-19. Bear in mind, that is a Thursday-Friday-Saturday series. The opponent will be WKU, at regular game times of 6:30, 4 and noon. For the final opportunity at home tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS or visit
