The Florida Atlantic University softball team split a double header Thursday night against Duke University, playing its inaugural season.

The Owls fell short 4-3 in the season opener and turned the tables in the second game with a 3-2 win. The double header was the first two games of the First Pitch Classic which features, Boston University, Bethune-Cookman University, Michigan State University, Northern Illinois University and The Ohio State University.

"Emily [Lochten] made typical Emily plays that only Emily can make," said Joyce. "Hitting the two home runs in the first game was pretty cool, we probably have never done that before. Samy Lageyre was awesome tonight, she really hit the ball well."

Madisyn Palmer drove in the first run of the season, Sami Williams, with a bases loaded grounder to first, in the bottom of the third inning. Emily Lochten hit a solo home run to left field to pull within two. The third run of the game was the Owls' second homer of the night this time off the bat of starting third baseman, then pitcher, Tatum Buckley. Buckley's shot was to center. It was the third and final run for the Owls.

Game 2 Highlights

Key Plays Tatum Buckley scored Madisyn Palmer with a double to right field. Mia Olsen then drove in Buckley, giving the Owls their first lead of the season. Palmer then recorded her second RBI of the evening with a single to right.

The Owls next two games of the Classic are scheduled for 6 and 8:15 Friday night. FAU will first play host Michigan State and will follow with Bethune-Cookman.
