Each week Florida Atlantic University senior forward Ra'Kyra Gabriel
will interview one of her fellow women's basketball teammates in a video series called "The Starting Five". The show's name, a common phrase used in basketball for the starting lineup, outlines the premise of the interview. Gabriel will ask guests only five questions as a starting point for conversation.
The first installment features fellow senior, Danneal Ford
. Ford ended last season averaging 13.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game, the only player in Conference USA to do so. The Miami, Florida native's assist average was the fourth most in FAU single-season history. Even as a pass-first player, Ford put up double figure points in 21 games last season, including six with 20-plus points.
Gabriel is the top returning rebounder for the Owls, averaging 6.4 last season. In FAU's only exhibition game, the Stockton, California native had 12 points and seven rebounds.
Ford, Gabriel and the Owls will open the 2018-19 season on Wednesday at 11 a.m. against Hampton in FAU Arena. FAU will be hosting AD Henderson School for the game, but the public is still encouraged to attend. For tickets, call 1-800-FAU-OWLS or visit FAUSports.com
