BOCA RATON, Fla. –
Florida Atlantic University running back Devin Singletary
has been named Conference USA's Offensive Player of the Week, following his efforts this past weekend in Shula Bowl XVII versus FIU.
Singletary, who was named FAU's Shula Bowl MVP, kept the Owls' hopes alive for a winning season with a spectacular running game on Saturday night. The junior carried the ball 27 times versus FIU. He tallied 184 yards and three scores in the game, while averaging 6.8 yards per carry. That marked the sixth time he has rushed for more than 175 yards in a game and 17th time rushing for more than 100 yards in a game, and his efforts helped FAU tally 439 rushing yards on the night. Singletary helped to establish FAU's rushing attack with 18 first half carries for 97 yards, including two of his three scores. In the opening drive, Singletary recorded 38 yards on seven carries and put the Owls on the board with a one-yard run.
The Owls used a one-two punch throughout the game electing to also go with Kerrith Whyte, Jr.
, who had 17 carries and 165 yards on the night for an average of 9.7 yards per play. The team also employed De'Andre Johnson
in a wildcat-mode offense that saw the quarterback tally seven carries for 50 yards. This rotation allowed Singletary to put the finishing touches on his night with nine carries in the second half for 88 yards, an average of 9.8 yards per carry. His three scores bested FIU's team production of two and moved him to 62 career rushing TDs, which ties him for the NCAA's ninth spot all-time for career rushing TDs. Singletary, who has moved past the single-season 1,000 rushing yard plateau for the third consecutive season, also earned CollegeSportsMadness.com Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Singletary is the fourth Owl to be recognized by Conference USA in 2018 and it is the fourth time in his FAU career to be honored as a C-USA Player of the Week. He joins Kerrith Whyte (Special Teams), Chris Robison
(Offensive) and Rashad Smith
(Defensive) from earlier this year.
