The Florida Atlantic University men's swimming and diving team has taken the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, as announced by the league on Tuesday. Redshirt freshman Josh Fountain
captured Men's Swimmer of the Week and sophomore Logan Downey
tallied Men's Diver of the Week. This is the first honor of this kind for Fountain and third this season for Downey.
FAU swimming and diving concluded its midseason at the Patriot Invitational hosted by George Mason last weekend. The top swimmer for the Owls was Fountain with 47 points, while Downey was the top diver of the meet with 40 points.
Fountain came back to Boca Raton as a new school recordholder, as well as recording two first-place finishes and four personal-best times. The Lilburn, Georgia native broke an FAU freshman record in the 1650-yard freestyle, where he clocked in at 15:31.55 to take first in the event. Fountain also captured first in the 500-yard freestyle where he tallied a top time of 4:29.80 and capped personal-best times in the 400-yad IM (4:06.48) and 800-yard freestyle relay as the team's anchor (1:41.84).
Downey completed his second sweep of the season in the 1- and 3-meter dives. In the 1-meter, Downey secured a first-place finish and NCAA Zone qualification with his score of 319.70. The Plantation, Florida native also took home first in the 3-meters, scoring 311.80.
FAU swimming and diving will host the FAU Fun Invitational, to be held on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 3 p.m. For the annual meet at FAU Aquatic Center, the FAU Owls will host Rice, Colorado State, Northeastern, Old Dominion and Wittenberg.
