Men's Golf Opens Play at Slomin Autism Championship

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University men's golf teed off at the 9th Annual FAU Slomin Autism Championship on Friday morning and finished the day tied for ninth place with a round one total of 304. The event is being held at PGA National Resort with the teams competing on the Squire Course, a par 72 that plays 6,447 yards. The Owls welcomed 12 teams to the tournament this year: DePaul, Florida Gulf Coast, UConn, Georgetown, Hartford, Jacksonville State, Morehead State, Murray State, Northern Illinois, Southern Miss, Stetson and UCF.

"Our 9th Annual Slomin Championship is off to a great start," said Head Men's Golf Coach Angelo Sands. "This year, we are happy to welcome several teams that have been here all nine years as well as the new teams in the mix. The PGA Resort & Spa is a world-class venue, and the players are very excited to be at a site that has held such prestigious tournaments as the Honda Classic, PGA and Ryder Cup."

Quick Hits
• Chris Thomas was the Owls' top finisher after the first 18 holes as he is tied for 17th. The sophomore shot 74 with a birdie on the par-4 second, par-3 third and par-5 fifth.
• Ricky Hendler came next with four over 72 to tie for 33rd with an eagle on the par-5 fifth.
• Senior Caleb Sibley and Brian Dolehide were close behind tying for 40th after both shooting 77. Both Owls had two birdies on the front nine and Dolehide added one on the back.
• Luke Campbell rounded out the five-man squad carding an 85.
• FAU also had four individuals compete with Adam Friedman leading the way tied for 40th with his fellow Owls. Sully Zagerman shot seven over 72 and is tied for 54th while Eric DeKarski and Kristian Perry sit in 73rd and 74th with rounds of 91 and 96, respectively.

The FAU Slomin Autism Championship will continue on Saturday, March 25, with the teams set to tee off at 8:30 a.m. at PGA National.
