FAU Game Notes
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team will hit the road for the last time in 2017 as they travel to take on Nebraska on Tuesday night. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. (EST) and the game will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
FAU (4-4) and Nebraska (8-3) have met only one other time in series history. In 2006, the two teams played on a neutral court and the Huskers came out with a 93-53 win.
Tuesday's game will be the last road nonconference game of the season for FAU and the last road game of 2017. The Owls will next play away from Boca Raton on January 18 at UTEP. Following the game, FAU will close out the nonconference portion of the schedule with the FAU Holiday Classic held on December 29 and 30. FAU will take on Delaware State first and then will face with Stetson or UMKC, depending on results from the first day.
LAST TIME OUT
The Owls were in action last Friday at Georgia State. FAU had arguably its best game of the season so far against the Panthers with a 32-point victory. It was the largest margin of victory for the Owls since December 6, 2014 against Webber International and the largest against a NCAA Division I opponent since January 2, 2013 versus Louisiana-Lafayette.
Using their size and physicality, the Owls outrebounded the Panthers, 58-45, and had a season-high eight blocks in the game. It was the second straight game that FAU has score 80-or-more points which was the first time since the 2015-16 season. Five FAU players scored in double figures and for the second consecutive game, two players recorded double-doubles.
The Huskers are currently on a four-game winning streak and have lost only three games this season. Those losses came against Creighton, Buffalo and Clemson. Nebraska is led in scoring by Taylor Kissinger who is averaging 14.0 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game this season. Four different players are averaging double digits for the Huskers.
CRASHING THE BOARDS
The Owls are proving themselves as a rebounding team, averaging 46.8 rebounds this season. That mark is the highest average in Conference USA and the sixth highest in the nation. That mark is also the highest by a FAU team in recent statistical history dating back to 2000. The Owls also lead the conference in defensive rebounds per game (31.0), which is the seventh highest in the country.
