BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer squad has two home matches in three days this weekend before leaving the friendly confines of FAU Soccer Stadium for three weeks' time.
FAU (3-4-1) looks to rebound when they host St. Bonaventure (2-3-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. The Owls have had 1-0 losses to Miami and SEMO on the road sandwiched around a scoreless draw with Oakland their last home match, this past Thursday, Sept. 8.
The Bonnies fell to Cleveland State by a score of 1-0 their last time out, but that came after their first two wins of the season after a 0-2-1 start: 4-1 over Niagara and 6-0 against Youngstown State. Marley Jarvis has a team-high three goals, and she is tied for the lead in points with Danielle Vis (two goals and two assists).
Sunday will be the Owls' 2016 Conference USA opener against rival FIU at 6 p.m. The Panthers (1-5-1) just snapped a five-game losing streak to pick up their first victory of the season, a 1-0 upset of Miami on the road Sunday afternoon. The game-winner was their first goal in 20 days, courtesy of Alyssa Robinson in the fifth minute of the match. She has three of the team's four scores on the season; FIU has been outscored by their opposition 15-4 in seven matches.
It will be the first ever meeting between the Owls and the Bonnies, and the 31st matchup against the Panthers, the most in FAU program history. Last year, a 2-0 Owl victory sent the team to the Conference USA Tournament.
This will be the last chance until Oct. 9 for local fans to see the Owls on their home pitch. To purchase tickets for any single match throughout this season, or for season ticket plans, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS or visit https://oss.ticketmaster.com/aps/fau/EN/buy/browse?i%5B0%5D=242.
