BOCA RATON, Fla. - For the third straight season, the Florida Atlantic University cross country team will host a home meet, as the FAU Invitational takes place on Friday night at South County Regional Park.
The Owls will be one of five men's teams, and seven women's squads, competing in the 5K on Friday evening. The women will race first, at 6 p.m., with the men scheduled to go off at 6:30 on the park's course, located at 11200 Park Access Road in Boca Raton.
FAU and fellow Division I schools FIU, Florida Gulf Coast and Miami, along with Nova Southeastern from DII, will make up the men's competition. Those five teams, Lynn and Palm Beach Atlantic, both DII, encompass the women's field.
"We are extremely excited to host our third annual FAU Invitational," said head coach Alex Smolka. "We've added another NCAA Division I team and now have a total of seven teams participating. The meet will also mark the return of our previous No. 1 runner Chloe Sell, who redshirted last year. It should be a great event, and we hope we'll have an even bigger fan turnout than last year!"
At last season's meet, the Owl men and women each took first in the team standings. Three men notched times that slotted them in the program's all-time Top 10, including a school record showing by Michael Vidal. The women were led by Sell, who as Coach Smolka mentioned redshirted a year ago, but returns as the squad's most-tenured runner this season.
