BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University's women's tennis team was recognized by the International Tennis Association as an All-Academic Team while Bianca Biglione, Jennifer Leib and Jazz Whittaker were named Scholar Athletes.
"Being a student-athlete is a juggling act and these three ladies have proven that you can have it all," said Marcy Cava, FAU's head women's tennis coach. "They work hard on and off the tennis court and have helped to set such a high academic standard for FAU women's tennis. I'm so proud of them and feel blessed to be part of their accomplishments."
Biglione, a rising senior for the Owls, earned third team Conference USA honors in 2015-16. She was also named the Female Outstanding student for FAU and was C-USA All-Academic and was a member of the District 4 At-Large All-Academic team. Biglione holds a 4.0 GPA as a biology major and holds a career dual match singles record of 38-13, through three seasons.
Leib, a rising junior, was 9-5 in 2015-16 dual match singles play and 12-4 in doubles action. Following two seasons of play, Leib holds a career singles record of 12-5 and 17-8 in doubles. She is working towards a degree that will fulfill her dream of becoming a pharmacist.
Whittaker, a rising senior, was 6-6 in 2015-16 dual match singles play and 8-4 in doubles. The junior college transfer is majoring in biological science.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above on a 4.0 scale. All varsity letter winners are factored into the team's GPA. ITA Scholar-Athletes are players who are varsity letter winners, hold a GPA of 3.50 or better on a 4.0 scale during the current academic year and have been enrolled at their current school for at least two semesters.
Women's tennis matches will return to campus for the first time in more than a decade following the completion of the new on-campus tennis courts scheduled for an October 2016 completion.
