No. 22 Softball Shuts Out UAB 6-0 to Take C-USA Tournament Title

DENTON, TEXAS -The No. 22 Florida Atlantic University softball team completed its clean sweep of the Conference USA Tournament with a 6-0 win over UAB on Saturday. With the win, the Owls (50-7) claim Conference USA's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It will be the 11th tournament appearance in program history.

Kylee Hanson gave up just three hits to pick up the win. The shutout was the 15th of the year for the junior, who leads the nation in that category. Hanson is now 28-3 on the year.
Alex Miller went 2-for-3 and was the only Owl to record multiple hits.
Christina Martinez had a two-run triple.
Carnesha Thompson had an RBI double and scored a run.
Delaney Rickey singled and scored.
Melissa Martinez had an RBI single.
• The Owls extended their school record winning streak to 21.
• The Tournament title is the first team title of any kind for FAU since joining Conference USA. It is the first tournament title for the softball team since 2007.
• FAU has won 50 games in a season for the first time since 2004.
Christina Martinez, Delaney Rickey, Carnesha Thompson, Tatum Buckley and Hanson were named to the all-tournament team. Hanson was named tournament MVP.

Key Plays
Thompson's RBI double in the bottom of the first drove in Delaney Rickey to give FAU a 1-0 lead. Thompson later came around to score on a UAB error. Melissa Martinez drove in Emily Lochten with a single to center in the third inning to increase the lead to 3-0. With runners on second and third in the fourth inning, Christina Martinez roped a triple to right that scored Madisyn Palmer and Samantha Lageyre to make the score 5-0. A Lochten sacrifice fly later in the inning scored Martinez for the final run. Hanson retired the last nine batters in a row in the circle.

The Owls will now wait to see where they will play for the NCAA Regional. The NCAA Selection Show airs at 10 p.m. Sunday on ESPNU. The team will hold a watch party at The Tilted Kilt, 3320 Airport Road, beginning at 9 p.m.
