BOCA RATON, Fla. - After a two hour rain delay, the no. 23 Florida Atlantic University softball team split a doubleheader with Southern Miss on Friday. The Owls (27-6, 4-1 Conference USA) beat the Golden Eagles 3-0 in game one, but lost game two 3-2.
Game 1 Notables
Lochten singled up the middle to score Delaney Rickey. Lochten scored later in the inning while Melissa Martinez was caught in a rundown. Lochten homered to center in the fourth to account for the final run of the game.
Game 2 Notables
- Amanda Wilson dropped to 8-3 in the circle, despite giving up just four hits.
- Six different Owls had hits in the game.
- Tatum Buckley hit her first homerun of the season,
Southern Miss scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead. After Melissa Martinez reached on a bunt single, Buckley hit a shot over the fence in left to pull FAU within a run. Kiley Southall reached on a bloop single with one out, but the next two batters were retired to end the game.

On game 2: "It took us a while to focus and by the time we did, it was too late. (The team) is disappointed that they lost, but I expect them to come out ready to play (on Saturday)."
