Box Score Sept. 20, 2015

Final Stats

MIAMI, Fla. â€" The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team opened Conference USA play with a four set (25-22, 21-25, 25-11, 25-18) loss to FIU on Sunday.

Facing a 24-15 deficit late in the first set, the Owls (8-5, 0-1 C-USA) held off seven set points, before a FIU (8-4, 2-0) kill ended the frame.

The Panthers built a lead early in set number two, but FAU fought back to a tie the score. That pattern, with FIU creating separation and the Owls clawing their way back, held until late in the set. FAU had already taken a 17-16 lead, then closed on an 8-4 run to even the match at a set apiece.

FIU blitzed the Owls in the third set on its way to a decisive 25-11 win. The fourth set was nip and tuck through the early going, until the Panthers used a 5-0 run to propel them to a 25-18 match-clinching win. Brittney Brown led the Owls with 12 kills, Kristina Rankovic added nine kills and 13 digs.

The Owls continue Conference USA play on Friday, Sept. 25 when they play at Southern Miss. The match is set for a 7 p.m. ET start and links to live stats and live video will be available at fausports.com.
