BOCA RATON, Fla. - Senior Ricky Santiago and junior Brendon Sanger combined for six hits and five runs scored to lead the No. 12 Florida Atlantic University to a 10-2 victory over UCF, clenching the season series.
The Owls (36-11) tallied four doubles in the game, bringing their season total to 100 doubles and 150 extra-base hits.
David McKay earned the win in his first career start without allowing a run in his two innings of work. Devon Carr and John Sebelle also dealt two-inning shutout performances for FAU.
After a UCF (28-21) error to lead off the second, Roman Collins hit a double and Brett Lashley picked up an RBI groundout to put FAU on the board. A walk to Christian Dicks loaded the bases before CJ Chatham hit an RBI double to increase the lead to 2-0.
Sophomore Stephen Kerr then laced a single through the left side to drive in two more to double the advantage.
The offensive display continued in the third as Sanger and Santiago each doubled to lead off the inning and Brett Lashley hit his nation-leading ninth sacrifice fly to put the Owls up 6-0.
Sanger's third hit of the day led off the fifth inning before Sanger and Collins each singled to load the bases. Dicks hit an infield, RBI single before CJ Chatham hit a sacrifice fly year to increase the advantage to 8-0.
Billy Endris sparked another two-run inning in the sixth as one of four Owls to reach to open the inning. With two outs, Chatham drew FAU's 18th bases-loaded walk of the year to increase the FAU advantage to 10-1.
UCF tacked on another run in the seventh, but couldn't overcome the deficit.
