BOCA RATON, Fla. - A 16-point second-half performance by sophomore Shaneese Bailey wasn't enough for the Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team to come back against Western Kentucky as the Owls fell 85-74 at FAU Arena.

WKU (24-4, 13-2 C-USA) is three victories away from clenching the Conference USA regular-season championship after the victory. The Owls (12-14, 6-9 C-USA) remain in tenth place in the standings with a three-game cushion over an elimination spot. FAU could clench a seed to the Conference tournament as early as Saturday.

Tennis legend Chris Evert was on hand to help the Owls celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

"It is such an honor to receive the National Girls and Women in Sports Day award from FAU," Evert said. "This award is close to me after being presented with the Flo Hyman Award in 1990, since this day is in honor of her. It is very inspiring to see how far women's sports have come and I'm excited to see what the future has in store for all women in sports!"

Bailey paced FAU with 19 points while juniors Ali Gorrell and Morgan Robinson each posted 17 points. Gorrell also led the way on the boards with six rebounds and chipped in a team-high four assists.

The Hilltoppers saw five players reach double-digit scoring, led by Kendall Noble's double-double of 23 points and ten rebounds. WKU was without one of its top players in Alexis Govan, who did not make the trip.

WKU shot nearly 60 percent in the first half and led the entire game after Noble opened the contest with a three-pointer.

The Hilltoppers led by 14 points early in the second half before Gorrell went on a personal 6-0 run to cut the lead to 52-44. Moments later, WKU would take its largest lead of the night at 16 points with ten minutes remaining. The Owls chipped away at the lead and a pair of free throws by Bailey made it a two possession game at 79-74 with 52 seconds to play. The Hilltoppers forced two turnovers and ended the contest on a 6-0 run to seal the game.

FAU hosts Marshall in its final home game of 2014-15 on Sat., Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. at FAU Arena. For tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS or visit FAUSports.com.
