Owls Down Keiser, Improve To 5-1

BOCA RATON, Fla. â€" The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team continued its fantastic start to the 2015-16 campaign with a 74-52 victory over Keiser University on Sunday.

The Owls (5-1) held the Seahawks (3-5) to just eight points in the third quarter to pull away for the win in FAU's final home game until Dec. 29.

An early 10-2 run put the Seahawks on top by as many as four in the first quarter. A layup by sophomore Melinda Myers on the first shot of the second put the Owls on top 16-15.

FAU would extend the lead to as many as eight before a late three-pointer cut the advantage to 34-29 at the half.

The Owls opened the third on a 7-0 run and continued it to 13-2 to go up 47-31 at the 5:$4 mark on a jumper by Nika Zyryanova.

Four different players scored in the first 2:40 of the fourth to increase the advantage to 2-39 on a layup by Myers. FAU made seven fourth-quarter free throws as 11 of their final 24 points came from the charity stripe.

Ali Gorrell paced FAU with 15 points while Kat Wright scored 13 as each of them tallied seven rebounds. Sasha Cedeno dished out a game-high four assists and scored 10 points while Myers led on the boards with nine points and eight rebounds.

FAU goes on the road for the next three contests, starting with a 5 p.m. tipoff at Kansas State on Sunday, Dec. 13. Live audio is available on FAUSports.com.
